New Job!

YAY! After working 6 years in a crap (but easy and very flexible) retail job - I finally have a new job! Guess what it is?

A manicurist for the salon Nail Tech!

Well actually, I am an apprentice. A lot of people don't now you can work at a salon without a license. In truth you can work as an apprentice, learning on the job, but there should only be one apprentice at a time. You can also work with a permit and work towards getting your license. (It kinda makes me wonder what a license is for though? I guess to say "Yes, I know what I'm doing. I'm a PRO.") Where I live, there are no nail schools. The only way to learn to do nails in school is to take a full cosmotology course, learning nails, make up, and hair. Although I enjoy styling hair, I don't have an interest in actually cutting it. Plus, a lot of times you have to go to school for such long hours that you can't work a job. You end up paying money instead of making it!

So why a manicurist? Well painting nails is a hobby of mine, and I really enjoy doing designs. I was a real artist in high school, so I guess it stems from that. I would go to work with my nails done at my old job and it would go a lot like this:

(except I'm not a man, and I worked retail, not in a restaurant, lol!)

Customers would get really excited and ooh and ah over my nails. They would ask me where I got them done, and when I said I did them or made them, they got so confused! "What? What do you mean?" I mean I did them, duh! Its not like only people at salons can paint nails!

Sadly, being a manicurist is really not as fabulous as some make it out to be. First off, I can't have my nails done! T_T I have to have my hands in acetone way too much. Maybe in the future I can do more acrylic than manis and pedis, and I may be able to do my nails then. Also, I have to wear khakis and a white shirt. They want us to look professional, but I'm hoping I can make it fashionable too.

Trying to Catch Up!

I was planning to use my three days off catching up on posts, but it seems the fates are against me! First I left all my sd cards at home (I'm staying at my boyfriends), and second - I'm SICK! I've been running a fever of about 100°F for the past two days. So much for enjoying my time off!
Well, anyways, here are some pictures of my nails in December. They were meant to be used for Autumn, but I didn't finish them in time.

They were inspired by some lovely nails I saw in this post on Mitsu's blog. I decided to go a bit more of a mode route by adding a couple grey nails with lots of bullion beads!

Speaking of nails, it seems the nail art community I usually post to on lj is dead. I may be wrong, but I know I tried to post not long ago and it never went through. /: Anyone know of another good place to post nails pictures?

Happy Halloween~!

Well, I actually didn't do anything festive today! I've been feeling sick since last night, so I just layed around and played Rune Factory 3. But I have been getting in the spirit practically every other day! I dressed up a lot for work, and I also got in costume the past two weekends while selling some hardcandy house jewelry at the Flying Monkey. I thought you might like to see some pictures!

The first two outfits are from Flying Monkey.

Nails

Waaaah! I was going to enter into Sara Mari's Spring Nail Art contest, but the submission date is already up!

Last day to enter was May 1st! Of course, I didn't have power the weekend I planned on submitting them, and I did not think to bring the nails to Kentucky with me. UGH. Oh well, I still plan on sending her a picture of the nails anyway. I still want a bit of recognition for my work, lol.

Here are the nails I made for the contest:

I decided to go with Mothers Day, since most other people went with floral. I actually had two other sets designed, but I ended up liking this set the best.

My first set, very bright and flowery.

My second set, which is Easter themed. Both sets are very much not finished. They are not done being painted or filed. I had also planned on adding a 3D Rilakkuma to both sets.

I made this simple nail template to draw out my designs.

My mother got really excited when I told her about the nail art contest and she gave me some of my Easter gifts early!

She gave me a set of striping polishes, a nail art pen, and a pack of confetti and stuff. I loved everything except the art pen. The nail art pen is for some reason water based, it was watery and didn't look like polish - just that my nails were kinda grey-ish. I was very disappointed and suprised with Cina.

Ah well, at least I got back into nail art, if nothing else!
